do radiologists complete residency or clinicals? 4 years ago

I plan on attending IUPUI next year for radiology. I have two years of post 911 gi bill left so I figured I would be my AS then work in my bachelors later on. I was talking to my mother who is a nurse and she said that anyone other than a doctor takes clinicals and only doctors do residency. I was under the impression that since you can receive An M.D. in radiology that you would attend a residency other than a clinical. I ask because when I'm done with the GI bill, in order to start clinical/residency, I would have to quit my job. Which is fine, but I'd feel more secure if it was a residency since those can be paying and clinicaks in most cases are not. Thanks for the help
